Shannon Connor
Roles: CWU National Young Workers Chair, Branch West of Scotland Area Chair, Branch Women’s Officer, Branch Legal Officer, Branch Editor, BT Business Regional Coordinator & GFTU Executive Young Workers Seat
Hi, my name is Shannon Connor, the current National Young Workers Committee Chair. I have been part of the CWU since joining BT Group in 2017, with my involvement as an activist starting with an invite from my branch to join a CWU Young Workers Education event in October 2021. It was shortly after this event that my branch asked me to become the official Young Workers Officer from the start of 2022 and I’ve been hooked ever since.
Since taking on the Young Workers Officer role, I have taken part in multiple conferences in the CWU, TUC and STUC and have enjoyed being able to use my voice to proactively shape change for my union and the wider trade union movement. I have also sat on the National Young Workers Committee since the Summer of 2022 and have enjoyed playing an active role in engaging more young workers and restructuring our committee to ensure that we are boosting engagement and involvement as much as possible.
After the recent hard work of the committee on the restructure, which was approved at the Rule Change Conference in 2024, I am keen to be part of a committee which is more active than ever and who are keen to make real change within our trade union and I would urge and welcome you all to be part of it!
I welcome any of you with questions/queries/ideas and input to get in touch with me, my contact details are below.
