The CWU is the trade union for Apple Store workers

The Communication Workers Union is one of the first unions in the UK to have an established Tech Sector union, set up by Tech Workers for Tech Workers – join us today!

As the Tech sector continues to grow unfortunately so do many of the problems and issues that workers face. This is why since United Tech and Allied Workers (UTAW)  was established more Tech Workers than ever are realising that a strong union voice is the only way they can affect change.

UTAW currently has members across many of the 40 Apple stores in the UK and every week this increases. Our members are working together to organise their union voice in Apple.

There is a popular misconception that we are not allowed to join a union, or that doing so might impact our career prospects. You should know you have a legal right to join and organise a trade union. You should not be discriminated against for doing so and when you join you decide who knows you have joined.

Our Apple Activists are growing in numbers and strength and want all Apple Workers to be included and have their voices heard. If you want to get involved or speak directly to someone who is organising in Apple contact apple@utaw.tech

Our Top Ten List of Demands

We know Apple can afford these changes and believe that they should make these changes to be “good enough”

  1. Apple is a 2 trillion dollar company; they can afford pay that keeps up with the cost of living and pays a base rate enabling us to live in the communities where we work.
  2. More transparency and equality in pay – Equal pay for equal work.
  3. Schedules that are healthy and predictable – longer gaps between shifts, predictable working patterns and regular weekends off that provide a healthy work/life balance.
  4. Better compensation for working anti-social hours, Sundays & bank holidays.
  5. Equal benefits with Apple Corporate workers – including transport benefits.
  6. Full time contracts offered to Part-time workers who are already doing full-time hours.
  7. Direct input into our Health and Safety policy – including COVID.
  8. Decent training that allows us to be confident and safe at work, with access to proper training facilities and devices.
  9. Visa sponsorship for staff moving to other countries that Apple operate in.
  10. More flexible hiring processes for those who live with a disability or whose first language is not English.
