Vital 999 Services Update

Monday 25th July 2022 15:45

The CWU have been consistent in stating we would not allow our planned strike action to put lives at risk.

We recognise that continuing to provide emergency 999 services is critical for people in UK.

The Relay UK service we provide is also a vital channel for customers who are blind or deaf to connect with emergency and other vital services.

We have therefore agreed that we will exempt those CWU members engaged in the delivery of these services from the strike action called on the 29th July and 1st August.

We are asking people in Voice Services, and a minimal number of those identified by BT as being essential to the technical support of these services, to attend work as normal during the period of industrial action.

The company have agreed to turn-off any other non-critical services that these members would normally undertake, so that the focus is on delivering vital services only.

We know our members supporting the 999 services have been hugely supportive of this dispute, and will be disappointed that they cannot take part in the strike action. However, we will work with you on ways that you can support the action, including making voluntary financial donations to the National Welfare fund, in the coming days.
