Welcomed cash boost in March for Capita TVL workers

A 2 per cent basic pay rise backdated all the way to January 2020 means a welcomed end-of-March payout for hundreds of hard-working TV licensing workers, who have voted by a massive 96 per cent to approve the deal negotiated between the CWU and Capita TVL.

The wage increase is fully pensionable and flows through to overtime – with more than half of our members also benefitting from gaining an extra day’s leave after five years’ service.

For those members on lower pay rates, a commitment from Capita to pay the Real Living Wage rate has already lifted wages to £9.30 per hour with effect from the start of April 2020.  They will also receive arrears of pay equivalent to 2 per cent for the period 1st January to 31st March 2020.

“This is a great result and I’m delighted that our Capita TVL members have given their union such a powerful endorsement,” says CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey, who points out that the extra day’s leave and the Real Living Wage commitments mean “real added value” to the overall package.

“These extra factors put the cost to Capita in excess of 4.5 per cent in total,” explains Andy, who is now planning the CWU’s 2021 pay claim for Capita TVL members.

“While this 2020 deal was a positive outcome in the circumstances, we were disappointed that we were unable to make progress on a shorter working week or on the vitally important issue of pension improvements.

“But right now, I just want to thank our Capita TVL members for their patience and their support and I’m very pleased that they’ll be getting some well-deserved money in their pockets at the end of this month.”
