Post Office – over 400 members take up pension enhancement

Popular response to key improvement negotiated by CWU…

A clause in the recently approved pay agreement, giving employees the option to increase their pension contributions to 8 per cent and triggering an employer increase to 12 per cent, has sparked a surge of applications.

In just two weeks since the new offer went ‘live’, hundreds of members have asked to take advantage of the opportunity – with many more expected to apply in the coming weeks.

The company extended the April deadline in response to concerns around the technical process for application coupled with the high level of interest over the past week.  Earlier this week, the running total of applications received by the business was edging towards 500.

CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey thanked Lisa Cherry, Group chief people officer, for her “prompt and positive action on this” and added: “We’re also very pleased that so many members have recognised and taken advantage of this enhancement.

“Social media comments, for example, from Tara Murray in Belfast Crown, who said: ‘Eight from our office posted theirs together yesterday”, and Dawn Bates from Sheffield Crown, saying: ‘Five from our office did so this afternoon’ confirm how popular this initiative is.

“Please don’t worry if you missed the April payroll cut-off,” Andy continues, “you can still put in your requests going forward in order to receive a better pension.

“Our hard-working members deserve the very best whilst at work and crucially also when they retire and we’re glad to see a step towards this position.”
