New Royal Mail uniform – a wardrobe for all seasons

Postal, Royal Mail Group (EMP)

Next year, postwomen and postmen can wear their shorts all through winter AND keep those legs warm, with the addition of stretch leggings to the Royal Mail uniform range…

And the new tech-fit ‘base layer’ undershirt will keep arms and bodies warm, while an ‘explorer’ hat and ‘pioneer’ cap have been added to the headgear options.

CWU outdoor secretary Mark Baulch tells CWU News: “These are welcome new pieces of kit for our members, which hopefully will deal with the uniform issues we’ve had in the past. The stretch undershirt and leggings will be a good practical solution for many delivery workers in particular.

“Our nominated postal executive members have worked well with the company on this, and the trials of the new workwear have involved hundreds of volunteers from units all over the UK – it’s certainly been robustly tested.

“Thanks to everyone for the work they’ve done and, in my opinion, it definitely looks like a smart uniform.”

The kit, for which ordering is now getting under way, will be arriving from the start of next year and Royal Mail national uniform manager Sam Dixon says: “We have engaged with so many frontline members to really understand what they needed from their uniform, and it was obvious the current uniform was just no longer fit for purpose. The new Performance Wardrobe has been designed by the wearers and experts in their fields and the trial was a huge success.

“We had loads of great positive comments from customers throughout the trial which aligns with the business strategy of getting that trust back on the doorstep, I can’t wait to see our postmen and postwomen wearing their new garments next year.”
