Delivery – the right kit for the right job!

Postal

Once again, you’re out there in rainy and windy weather serving the public. And now more than ever, it’s vital that every postman and postwoman is issued with the right kit.

The last time we had bad weather, we received reports of new starters not being given uniform, and of some managers saying they’d not issue proper the kit to new starters for their first four weeks.

If this is happening at your office, this is in direct breach of the Uniform National Agreement, which clearly states that new starters are entitled to basic uniform from day one.

These entitlements consist of:

  • Shoes x1;
  • Tops x5;
  • Bottoms x2;
  • Fleece jacket x1;
  • Hi-vis waistcoast x1;
  • If role involves outdoor work, storm-proof coat x1

The union leadership sent out a letter last month (ref: LTB 246/26, 15.09.26), reminding all branches of this entitlement, and to urge vigilance over suspected breaches of this policy.

If you believe new starters in your office haven’t been issued their day one allocation, call it in – report this to your CWU rep, and quote the September letter reference to them.
