CWU backs Citizens Advice call for Single Worker Status

Commenting on today’s Citizens Advice report into the working and payment conditions of parcel delivery drivers Dave Ward, General Secretary of the Communication Workers Union (CWU) said:

“CWU strongly welcomes this report and its finding that the pay and employment conditions of the workforce in the parcel industry have a significant impact on the quality of service for consumers. The analysis confirms what the union has argued for many years primarily that bogus self-employment in the sector has been hugely detrimental for workers in terms of pressure and stress. Citizens Advice is right to call on the Government to implement a single status of worker in the parcel market and to ensure that the status can be enforced.”
