This week we have an EXTRA SPECIAL episode of CWU Live, where we dive into all things conference. We talk to members, reps and leaders of the union across postal, T&FS and tech; the fastest growing sector of our union. Tune in to hear about all the insights and reflections on the future direction of our union.
You may have heard that Google sacked workers for protesting a $1.2b military contract with Israel, called Project Nimbus.
Since 2021, Googlers have been organising a campaign called No Tech For Apartheid, asking Google to drop Project Nimbus. Last week Google dismissed workers who staged a sit-in, but didn't stop there.
They also dismissed workers passing by who stopped to talk to their colleagues and workers who weren't even in the office at the time, for a total of over 50 terminated employees.
Google is trying to clean house because they know that worker dissent is a threat to their war profiteering.
As a tech union, we condemn Google's disproportionate retaliation against workers protesting the conditions of their labour, including Project Nimbus, safety and ethical concerns associated with the contract, and a pattern of workplace bias.
UTAW members at Google stand with our colleagues in the USA and call on Google to drop Project Nimbus. We will continue to organise No Tech For Apartheid in the UK until Google drops Nimbus.
