TB 145/2020 – Capita Tesco Mobile – Pay 2020
Issue No. 145/2020 | 22 July 2020
TO: CAPITA – TESCO MOBILE MEMBERS
Dear Colleague
Capita Tesco Mobile – Pay 2020
It was back at the end of May when we last updated you on the Pay Review for 2020, when further focus went onto ensuring that everyone was working safely through the Coronavirus pandemic.
Throughout this time, the CWU never lost focus that you work to live not live to work. That basic pay was of great importance to you as a member of the Union and the CWU have worked tirelessly on your behalf to ensure that the reason you come to work has not been forgotten.
Our briefing in May was short and simple but stated that the offer on pay was complex and raised many questions. The CWU have recognition in another part of Capita and wrote to John Lewis CEO because it became clear that certain principles had been adopted across Contact Centre Management (CCM) and that they were also guiding pay discussions in Capita Tesco Mobile. This is confirmed by the response that was from Matthew Vallance CCM Managing Director.
Within the proposals were a change to the pay review date, back payments for the Real Living Wage increases and differing offers covering RUS and the TUPE population. Further complicated by a view of what both No agreement and an agreement meant but let’s be clear, the proposals within the review impact every member in the bargaining unit.
Some weeks ago, we put a counter proposal to Capita that we believed was the only way to avoid splitting the whole of the Tesco Mobile workforce down the middle of either gaining or losing out.
Since then it has moved between the Partnership and the Division and Capita Group. What has become apparent it seems is that there are a great number of tiers of management interest within Capita and that our counterproposals may need plc level sign-off.
I apologise for the delays in keeping you informed; unfortunately, these are interesting and challenging times in many respects.
We want to reach agreement with Capita on a decent pay review for all our members and Mr Vallance recognises this but signed off his letter with – “If this is not possible we will need to look at the next steps”. Those next steps could put us into dispute with the employer and for that the CWU will need you to be engaged and involved.
We understand that clarity has now been given at senior level within Capita for discussions to continue and arrangements are being made for that to happen.
The CWU look forward to recommencing discussions on your behalf and we shall keep you fully informed as we now enter the latter stages of negotiation with management.
Yours sincerely,
Brendan O’Brien
Assistant Secretary (T&FS)
