Commenting on Keir Starmer’s leadership speech at Labour Party Conference, CWU General Secretary Dave Ward said: “Keir Starmer was right to attack the Tory obsession with privatisation and trickle-down economics – a fanatical ideology that has brought our country to its knees.

“It was refreshing to hear him echo the CWU’s own suggestion that Britain needs a new deal for workers.

“Like any other worker, members of our union want a society where there’s more money in their pockets, they’ve got high quality jobs and every community feels secure.

“We need vital services like Royal Mail taken away from boardroom crooks and put back into public hands, as conference voted in favour of this week.

“The public are crying out for this kind of change, as are Labour members – with the leadership sincerely committed to enacting these goals in government, the working-class movement would fight to propel them into power.”
