CWU Statement on Royal Mail Delivery Standards Investigation

COMMUNICATION WORKERS UNION
17/02/2026
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Responding to the Business and Trade Committee’s announcement that Royal Mail has two weeks to answer claims that parcel deliveries are being prioritised over letters, Communication Workers Union General Secretary Dave Ward said: “Parliament is right to be worried about the situation at Royal Mail, and postal workers welcome the concern over the company’s self-inflicted declining standards.

“Across the country, serious delays in postal deliveries have been taking place for over three years.

“Not because of illness, as senior Royal Mail figures claim, but because of chronic mismanagement at the top of Royal Mail itself.

“The British public can see very clearly what is happening to the Royal Mail as an institution.

“The CWU have major concerns over whether Royal Mail have any intention of putting these problems right, which can only be achieved by meaningful dialogue with union representatives and full transparency with the government.

“We will continue to make sure that the voices of postal workers are heard.”
