Terry Pullinger comments on Royal Mail’s trading update

Postal

When will politicians, regulators and free market obsessive’s realise that a stunning case of excellence is right before their eyes and in danger of being ruined unless they open their eyes.

These results demonstrate that, once again, postal workers have delivered steady and tangible business improvement as well as delivering an excellent service to the British public.

It beggars belief that Royal Mail and its employees are constantly being scrutinised in respect of efficiency and performance by a regulator who pontificates and refuses to see the obvious – that we have the greatest postal services in the world and have done for over 500 years.

Not only should our members continue to be rewarded for their immense contribution during very challenging times but Royal Mail should also be allowed to grow by continuing to deliver the universal six day a week delivery service right across the whole day, integrate that service with new product innovations in keeping with the public’s modern demands, diversify in new operations and be re-integrated in partnership with the Post Office so that natural synergies can be realised in the interests of the UK’s social, industrial and commercial life.

Such unrestricted strategic vision will enable this great institution to survive and thrive, reconciling commercial entrepreneurism with public service, whilst offering decent jobs to decent people and a business model which honours our heritage and represents the best of British corporate responsibility and standards.

The People’s Post’ is exactly that – it connects every single address in this country six days a week – it’s still relevant and must be protected. The CWU will never stop promoting this wonderful instrument of civilisation and extraordinary business, we will campaign and fight for its protection and the interests of the public and our members. We hope you join us.
