Santander reorganisation

Telecoms & Financial Services, Santander

Negotiations have successfully concluded on the TUPE transfer of Produban staff into Santander UK’s new Santander Technologies subsidiary which will take effect on January 1st.

From that date the Produban, Isban and Geoban names will cease to exist – though this did not require TUPE transfers for staff in Isban and Geoban as their moves into the new Santander Technologies and Santander Operations subsidiaries of the UK bank represent, in effect, little more than name changes.

As reported in the last issue of The Voice, assurances had already been received that there would be no adverse effect on terms and conditions or job security stemming from any elements of the reorganisation.

That has been confirmed by the fact that the TUPE agreement covering Produban transferees guarantees that all Ts&Cs remain either unchanged or, in some instances, improved on what they had been previously.

  • The CWU is, however, pressurising Santander UK to act swiftly to end the uncertainty for Swiss Post members stemming from the company’s announcement in June that it was putting the mail room contract out to tender.

Originally an announcement regarding the successful bidder was expected in August – but, as The Voice went to press, Santander – which has now extended the current Swiss Post contract until the end of February – was still evaluating two rival bids, including one from Swiss Post .

“Clearly this is an unsettling time for our members in Santander’s mail rooms and we’re urging the Bank to provide clarity on its future plans as soon as possible,” concludes assistant secretary John East.
