May 17 CWUHA Convoy to Moldova

On Thursday 11th May twelve CWU and two CWU Ireland members set off from Hull in four Royal Mail, two BT and one ire vehicles for Baltic and Chisinau in Moldova.

The mission led by Lenny Crook, North Lancs & Cumbria branch and Steve Rowlands, Manchester Combined will be delivering tons of aid of medical supplies, food, clothing, bedding, electrical goods, toys to a rundown Children’s hospital ward, vulnerable families and disabled centres, including the CWUHA supported Phoenix Centre.

The drivers will also be attending the 2nd Annual Phoenix Sports Day where 180 under 13 boys and girls will be playing for the CWUHA Shield and trophy. CWUHA and Pellacraft have provided the kits, footballs, training equipment and medals for all 180 children taking part.

Three of the 14 drivers taking part are newcomers, Simon Turley, Birmingham & District branch and Megan Griffiths & Beth Elstob are both from the Tyne & Wear Clerical branch. Beth and Megan are in their 20’s while Ted Stead is in 60’s (though young at heart) showing that age is not a barrier for getting involved.

The drivers will be in Moldova for six days and will be joined by James Fedarb a BT Manager who will be helping deliver aid to vulnerable families and visiting the Phoenix Centre.

A big thank you to all CWU Branches, Regions and members who helped make all this possible.
