International Women’s Day (March 8)
March 6 2020The need for Women to be celebrated, empowered and acknowledged is more important today than ever before. International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
The CWU’s Equality, Education and Development Officer Kate Hudson said “While there has been a lot of good work developing better policies in the workplace more needs to be done. In society women are still seen as figures with high profile misogyny cases hitting news headlines on a weekly basis. The Cyprus Rape Case was a shocking reminder of how women are seen and exploited as sexual figures.
The theme for IWD 2020 is #EachforEqual, recognising all of the actions we can take as individuals to challenge stereotypes, fight prejudice and celebrate women’s achievements.
#EachforEqual is about ‘Collective Individualism’
The IWD 2020 campaign theme is drawn from a notion of ‘Collective Individualism.’
The broader campaign We are all parts of a whole. Our individual actions, conversations, behaviours and mind-sets can have an impact on our larger society.
Collectively, we can make change happen. Collectively, we can each help to create a gender equal world.
Kate added the widely used moto for IWD: “Equality is not just a women’s issue, so do what you can to truly make a positive difference for women everywhere.”
