Good news’ at BT Consumer: 500 more jobs
Telecoms & Financial Services December 13 2016The CWU has given a warm welcome to yesterday’s announcement of hundreds of new posts being created by BT Consumer as the company continues to bring call handling back from India.
Nigel Cotgrove, assistant secretary, commented: “Following consultation with the union, the company has confirmed that it intends to create another 500 direct labour jobs in BT Consumer.”
Separately, there will be another 100 jobs in a new flex centre, and 180 in-service agency staff will be offered a BT contract.
“These jobs will further increase the proportion of direct labour and will help to ensure that 90 per cent of calls are handled in the UK by April 2017,” Nigel added.
The 500 new recruits will be employed across the company’s contact centres, with the largest numbers in Swansea, Warrington, Doncaster and Accrington, and will fill both sales and service positions.
The Swansea site will be the location for the extra 100 posts planned for BT Consumer’s new flex centre, while the largest number of agency conversions will take place at Enniskillen, Dundee and Sandwell.
Describing the recruitment plan as “very welcome,” Nigel pointed out that this development “underlines the progress the union has made in securing permanent BT jobs since the 2015 Transformation Agreement on job security and attendance patterns.”
