CWU reps in BT Facilities Services (BTFS) gathered at CWU headquarters this week as part of a training event to discuss various national issues and a number of key challenges that lay ahead in 2017. The three day event involved all of the BTFS National Team members and Consultative Committee Representatives and the2017 Pay review and the introduction of performance related pay were also discussed.

BTFS came into existence in 2012 when BT decided to re-insource facilities management work that had previously been outsourced. Since then, the CWU has been steadily building up union membership levels within BTFS, representing members who carry out various plant, equipment, housekeeping, estate maintenance and repair services for the company.

The event included a session dedicated to performance management, in which the draft policy documentation on continuous development and job standards was discussed in detail. The final session was dedicated to recruitment and organising as well as discussing the representative structure and the forthcoming election of National Team members and representatives.

Commenting on the success of the week, Assistant Secretary Sally Bridge said: “BTFS is

a fairly new company but we already have a great team of representatives both at National and local level. They have all shown terrific interest and enthusiasm, and we take incredible encouragement in seeing how far they have come.

“They genuinely want to learn about their role as a BTFS union representative so that they can go back to the workplace and put their new skills into practice. They are also enthusiastic about recruiting new members and hopefully the training event will give them the confidence to carry on the good work”
