Dedicated workforce behind Royal Mail’s solid performance

Deputy General Secretary (Postal) Terry Pullinger gave credit to CWU members in the face of major change and increased competition when he commented on Royal Mail’s latest financial results.

Responding to the company’s report just published for the half year ended 27 September 2015, Terry said:

“These results represent a very solid performance and defy the judgment of those who may be cynical that Royal Mail can’t modernise. To maintain such a performance in the face of increased competition and huge price pressure, while still delivering an excellent public service and investing heavily in modernisation and new products is a credit to all who work for Royal Mail and especially our members.

“This is a huge organisation which is demonstrating that it can transform and modernise whilst still performing an excellent public service delivering to every single address in this country, at a uniform price, six days per week.”

Terry added: “Our 500 years of heritage is our motivation and it should be remembered that behind these results and the excellent service Royal Mail offers there is a loyal and dedicated workforce, which is having to come to terms with major change every day.

“The improvements in efficiency demonstrate our members’ worth and their commitment, and the regulator should recognise the value of the People’s Post and that our members are the people to deliver it. Now is the time for momentum and Royal Mail should be freed up to fulfil its public obligation, modernise and deliver our Agreement for long term growth and success.”
