Union Matters

Tracey Fussey, Stephen Albon and Carl Maden to serve as Assistant Secretaries, representing our union’s hard-working members…

“This is such a huge honour. Thank you to everyone who has supported and nominated me. I will not let you down,” vowed Tracey, after she heard the news that she had been elected as an Assistant Secretary for the Telecoms & Financial Services (T&FS) section of the CWU.

Tracey, who has previously been elected onto the T&FS Executive and the National Executive Council (NEC), will, in her new role, have national responsibility for members working in BT Enterprise – Ventures, BT Property & Facilities Services, Capita, CBRE (BT Contact), Compass (BT Contract), Elior (BT Contract), ISS  (BT Contract), Swiss Post (BT Contract) and 14Forty.

“It’s a tough time for our members in these businesses at the moment,” said Tracey, “particularly against the backdrop of the pandemic.

“I’m determined to achieve the very best for them and harness our strength as a union to fight hard to protect and enhance our members jobs, setting our own agenda where necessary. Where we need to have the fight with aggressive employers we will do so.”

Stephen and Carl – who have also served on the NEC as well as the T&FS and Postal Executives respectively – have both been working in ‘acting’ Assistant Secretary roles, and are extremely grateful for the support they have received from members.

Stephen, whose ‘patch’ includes CWU members in EE Consumer, EE Enterprise, BT Consumer and Yell, told CWU News: “We face many challenges in all the companies we represent in the telecoms and financial services sector and as a union, we must continue to robustly challenge these attacks that affect all of our members and not lose sight of our own agenda.

“I would like to thank all the branches and their members for the trust they have placed in me to carry out this role and I will continue to work hard on their behalf.”

Carl’s areas of responsibility cover Royal Mail’s Fleet and Engineering operations, as well as RMPFS Engineers, with an added overall portfolio of agreements and policies including conduct, attendance, bullying and harassment and grievance issues across the whole company.

He also has responsibility for Managing The Surplus Framework (MTSF) issues and industrial action ballots.

“It’s a varied job, representing the technical services groups of our members and also the challenge of working for fairness in terms of these broader IR matters,” says Carl.

“And so the fantastic support from members and the superb efforts of our frontline reps are crucial to our future success. I want to thank them for the confidence they’ve expressed in me and pledge to do my very best on their behalf.”

CWU general secretary Dave Ward told CWU News: “I’ve congratulated Tracey, Stephen and Carl on their respective elections and wished them all the very best in their roles.

“I know all three of them well and I know they’ll each in their own individual ways do a first-class job for our members.”

There was one more CWU officer elected, Davie Bowman, who was re-elected for another term in his current role.
