LTB 742/16 – BT Consumer: Bank Holiday Pay
No. 742/2016
20th December 2016
Dear Colleagues,
BT Consumer: Bank Holiday Pay
For over 10 months the CWU has been pressing BT to apply the correct formula for Bank Holiday payments. This has still not been resolved, and the BT Consumer guidance issued today on claiming payments has not been agreed with the CWU.
The CWU view is that where the attendance is within standard hours, the payment is in addition to the normal pay and any shift allowance or night attendance payments due. BT Consumer argues that the payment includes the normal daily pay.
In October the CWU escalated that issue of the payments formula to Group Reward (see LTB 638/2016). We hoped that the matter could be resolved by Christmas but it now clear that this will not be possible.
Separately, BT has still not confirmed that if it has underpaid staff then the appropriate back payments will be made.
BT Consumer has also today issued the attached guidance to claiming Bank Holiday pay over the Christmas and New Year period. The guidance has not been agreed with the CWU as it is based on BT’s interpretation of the formula for the calculation of Bank Holiday pay.
The CWU National Team is very disappointed that this remains unresolved, but we will continue to seek resolution in the coming weeks and escalate the matter further if necessary.
Yours sincerely,
Nigel Cotgrove
Assistant Secretary
