LTB 632/18 “Save Our Post Office” – National Campaign Day Sat 1st December

No. 632/2018

9th November 2018

Dear Colleagues

“SAVE OUR POST OFFICE” – NATIONAL CAMPAIGN DAY SAT 1ST DECEMBER

Further to yesterday’s National Briefing, firstly we wish to thank all Branches and Representatives for their attendance and participation in this positive event. The engagement with Reps during the Regional break-out sessions was very encouraging as was the subsequent report backs, together with the good ideas generated.

Looking forward, as reported yesterday, the Union will be holding a series of Regional activities on our National Campaign Day – Saturday 1st December. These events are designed to raise the public awareness of the vulnerability of the entire Post Office due to government policies that support the decline of this wonderful service and institution. Additionally, the Union will be engaging with all politicians, including MPs, MSPs, Assembly Members and MLAs and of course local councillors and council leaders. Central to this activity will be our media strategy that will highlight our aims and objectives together with the activities planned. Chris Webb, Head of Media, Communication and Engagement and his team will be working on this as a priority.

Regional Secretaries have full authority to work up plans for Saturday 1st December. Initial ideas following the break-out sessions with Branches and Reps were reported yesterday. Clearly these plans now need to be firmed up and supported by a communications strategy to connect with politicians, community and pensioner groups. In this regard, we are planning to hold a weekly conference call with the Regional Secretaries to ensure the necessary focus and support is provided. Details of these calls will be provided directly to the Regional Secretaries.

Branches are once again encouraged to actively promote our Microsite – www.saveourpostoffice.co.uk by taking all necessary steps to ensure members sign the online petition and to write to their MPs. This activity takes no longer than 2 minutes and is easy to undertake via a smartphone, tablet or PC. There has been a good response to this initiative; however we now need to take the support for this activity to the next level and all Branches being involved in this will be instrumental.

Yours sincerely

Andy Furey – Assistant Secretary

Terry Pullinger – DGS (P)

Dave Ward – General Secretary
