COP26 Coalition/Hazards Campaign – ‘What About The Workers? – Making Workplaces Safe For Workers And The Environment’ – Online Event Monday 8 November 2021 6:30pm – 8:30pm: Toxins, Air Pollution, Climate Change and ‘Just Transition’ For Workers
Introduction:
The Hazards Campaign in conjunction with the Trade Union Clean Air Network and the COP26 Coalition have announced a pre-COP26 event and ’round table discussion’ on 8 November which will look at the connected issues of toxins use reductions, air pollution inside and outside of the workplace, workplace adaptation to address climate change and ’Just Transition’ for workers.

Background – Paris Agreement 2016 and ‘COP26’ – The 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference Glasgow, Sunday, 31 October – Friday 12 November 2021
The Paris Climate Agreement has been hailed as a great step in international efforts to tackle the climate crisis. 2021 marks 5 years since the Agreement was signed and came into force in April 2016. However, greenhouse gases reached record levels last year and the agreed emission levels haven’t been met.
COP26 is the UN 2021 international climate change conference and could be the world’s last chance to get climate change under control. COP26 will bring together parties to accelerate towards goals of the Paris Agreement and UN Framework Convention On Climate Change. For 30 years the UN has been bringing together every country on earth for global climate summits called COP (Conference Of the Parties). In that time climate change has gone from a ‘fringe issue’ to a ‘Global Priority’.
Just Transition:
Just Transition is a framework developed by the trade union movement to encompass a range of social interventions needed to secure workers’ rights and livelihoods when economies are shifting to sustainable production, primarily combating climate change and protecting biodiversity.
