LTB 422/18 – BT Grievance Procedure and Mediation

No. 422/2018

Ref: DJ/KD

Date: 24th July 2018

TO:     BRANCHES WITH MEMBERS EMPLOYED BY BTPLC

Dear Colleague,

BT Grievance Procedure and Mediation

The Personnel Team have dealt with a number of instances where members have chosen to use the Mediation Process and subsequently the mediation has not been successful or has been declined by the other party managers have then refused the member the ability to raise a grievance.

Clearly this is not acceptable and on challenging the company we have managed to have the situation clarified and the Grievance Procedure and the Grievance Manager’s Guide wording changed in Section 6 of both and have had the additional wording added;

‘Where mediation is agreed, any related grievance case would be closed and a mediation case raised. However, if either party then declines to participate the grievance case would be re-opened, and the process recommences (unless of course the complainant wishes to withdraw their grievance).’

Since raising this matter with the company there have been no further examples of what has been outlined above. If Branches do have any examples please send them on.

Attached to this LTB are the new revised Grievance Procedure and the Grievance Manager’s Guide.

Any enquires regarding this LTB should be to my office in the first instance.

Yours sincerely,

Dave Jukes
