LTB 135/25 – THE CRISIS IN GAZA – CWU/CWUHA APPEAL

No: 135/25

7th July 2025

 TO:  ALL BRANCHES

Dear Colleagues,

The Crisis in Gaza – CWU/CWUHA Appeal

The CWU continues to call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, for an end to the UK’s supply of weapons to Israel and for the UK Government to use their significant influence on the international stage to condemn the violations of international law by Israel. We also call for the safe return of the remaining hostages and condemn the rise of both antisemitic and Islamophobic incidents in the UK.

Since Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the horrific October 7 attacks committed by Hamas, at least 55,297 people have been killed in Gaza, nearly 70% of which are women and children. Over 127,000 have been injured. The UN also estimates that approximately 92% of all residential buildings have been damaged and the World Health Authority reports that only 19 of the 36 hospitals in Gaza remain operational and are struggling under severe supply shortages. An acute aid crisis is also threatening the population of Gaza, with UNICEF reporting that:

  • 14,000 children in Gaza are suffering from acute malnutrition
  • Nearly 17,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women require treatment for acute malnutrition during this period.
  • 600,000 children lack sufficient water for their basic needs.

In response to the aid crisis in Gaza, the CWU has launched an appeal with CWU Humanitarian Aid to raise funds to help purchase aid for hospitals and families. CWUHA are in contact with individuals and organisations who are able to assist them in ensuring the aid reaches the point of need in Gaza.
