LTB 065/19 – BT Consumer: New Concierge Role

No.065/2019

1stFebruary 2019

TO ALL BRANCHES WITH BT MEMBERS

Dear Colleague

BT Consumer: New Concierge Role

Following negotiations with the CWU a new Concierge role is being advertised today in Consumer Read as a 12 month secondment.

The roles will be initially advertised in Newcastle, Warrington and Doncaster but it is the intention to introduce the role into all sites regardless of size. The roles will be a mix of full time, part time and can also be available as a job share.

The function of the Concierge is to carry out a range of tasks and activities designed to help make life easier for all staff within Sales and Service.

This will primarily involve running errands, drop and collect dry cleaning, picking up parcels or shopping. The role will also include helping with desk drops, assisting with Senior Leadership Team roadshows, helping to run incentives, assisting with wellbeing days, arranging volunteering/charity events, seasonal activities, organising external supplier visits, arranging staff discounts, ad-hoc engagement activities such as organising a present wrapping service at Christmas.

The Concierge will be required to use a BT pool car and work a shift pattern within the opening hours of their contact centre.

Branches and reps should note that BT has confirmed the following.

  • No one will be disadvantaged by undertaking this role.
  • At the end of their time in the role all individuals will be able to return to their previous role.
  • Anyone taking up the role will retain their current grade, terms and conditions. If someone is in a bonused role, then personal average bonus will be paid for the period of the secondment.
  • In certain circumstances it may be necessary to introduce this role on a blended basis, with an individual doing a mixture of Concierge and other duties. If this is the case then BT will consult with the CWU at local level to ensure that nobody is disadvantaged.
  • Before the secondment is filled on each site, Operations Managers will consider if there is anyone on site who is without a permanent role and suitable for this new role, including anyone covered by the AJS process.

The CWU and BT will review how the role is operating during June 2019, and then formally map the role.

Attached is a letter from BT, a copy of the Job Description and BT’s communications.

Branches are requested to discuss the introduction of this role with local site management.

If there are any issues with the deployment of this new role that cannot be resolved locally then please advise CWU HQ.

Yours sincerely

Nigel Cotgrove

Assistant Secretary
