Pay boost for Post Office workers

Postal, Post Office (PO)

Hard-working Post Office workers will be receiving a 2.8 per cent wage rise in their December salaries, after members heavily backed a deal negotiated by the CWU.  Also covered in this agreement is next year’s pay settlement, which will lift pay by a further 2.5 per cent.

And, with all arrears – the increase being backdated to April 2018 – included with December pay, the deal adds up to a welcome pre-Christmas boost for around 2,500 staff.

The package was agreed between the union and the business last month and then put out to a members’ ballot, the result of which was announced today and gave the agreement a 98% endorsement on a 57% turnout.

CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey, who led the negotiations on behalf of the union, welcomed the members’ verdict, saying: “It’s great news that the deal received such overwhelming approval.

“Most importantly, this means that our hard-working members get the benefit of more money in their pockets in the run-up to Christmas – at an especially tough time for many of our members, it’s a piece of welcome good news.”
