Capita TVL workers set for big June payout

Members working for television licensing contractor Capita TVL will receive a major boost to their end-of-month pay packets after overwhelmingly endorsing a deal lifting pay by a minimum of 2 per cent on all basic rates.

The basic rise will apply to around 800 CWU-grades employees employed at the company’s sites in Darwen and Bristol, and as enquiry officers and detection van drivers working in the field.

And the extra increases, entrance or starter-rate rises will be backdated to January, meaning more extra cash in members’ pockets from their June salaries.

Additionally, the agreement includes a monetary settlement to compensate field members for travelling time.

“Capita TVL’s initial offer was the consolidated basic pay rate adjustment on its own,” explains CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey, adding that this increase had been decided at Capita Group level.

“When we rejected that offer, TVL bosses had insisted that their ‘hands were tied’ on this, but at our insistence, they did agree to look at raising rates further down the pay scale and, as a result of this pressure from the CWU, a significant proportion of our operations (office-based) membership will see their pay go up by an average 5.1 per cent compared to last year, with many of our field members benefitting from a 4 per cent overall pay boost.”

Andy, who led the negotiations with the support of postal executive members Andy Hopping and Dave Wilshire, continued: “In the circumstances, it’s an excellent deal, which represents another step forward in our long-term strategy of improving pay, terms and conditions at Capita TVL.

“We’re delighted that our Capita TVL members have given such a strong, 82 per cent endorsement to this negotiated agreement and they deserve this increase for their hard work and dedication.”
