Black History Month

Equalities

CWU Branch Secretary Amarjite Singh was the host of a well received Black History event at the Welsh Senned earlier this week. The event was also attended by the CWU’s new Equality, Education & Development (EED) Head Kate Hudson, as children from local schools addressed the audience talking about the role models who inspired them, these included Michelle Obama and Nelson Mandela.

The EED department’s Black History pull-ups were on proud display at the event giving the children a great insight into characters such as Betty Campbell, Paul Robeson, Mary Seacole and Olaudah Equiano. These pull-ups are available to hire free of charge from the department and we encourage Branches to make good use of them!

Kate Hudson added “the pull-ups present as an excellent mobile exhibition, offering an educational insight into a number of BAME people who have contributed significantly to society and who deserve to be duly recognised. It was fantastic seeing the children taking an interest in Black History and today was special as it brought together local schools, trade unions, Show Racism the Red Card and the Welsh TUC.”
