UNI Global Union
The CWU is one of 900 trade unions affiliated to UNI
Global Union representing 20 million workers in 140 countries
worldwide. As the universal union for skills and services, UNI aims
to foster international solidarity by providing a voice and
platform at an international level for all its members.
In the age of globalism and with the worldwide economy facing a deepening crisis, UNI Global is focused on achieving fairness and equality for its members internationally through global agreements. Campaigns for sustainable well-paying employment with union organising and bargaining rights enshrined in law are at the forefront of UNI's objectives.
In collusion with its member unions, UNI also works in developing countries to broaden the trade union sphere of influence where there is little or none and offers training, support and guidance to new members.
CWU general secretary, Billy Hayes,
was elected to the UNI world executive board as the president of
UNI postal and logistics in August 2011 for a three year term. One
of seven officials from trade unions in the UK and Ireland, Billy
will attend topical conferences alongside representatives from
trade unions all over the world.
