The CWU represents all non-managerial staff that work for Text
Relay, the majority of whom are operators.
Text Relay is a service which allows those with hearing
difficulties to use the phone. Until 2009 Text Relay was run by the
RNID and funded by BT as part of its universal service obligation.
In Dec 2009 the operation, which is based in Liverpool, was
transferred to BT and is now part of BT Retail.
Typetalk members are part of the Liverpool District Clerical
