A stark warning has been issued to BT that the CWU is resolute in its determination to defend members’ pensions in the wake of the company’s unwelcome but widely anticipated decision to trigger a review of the BT Pension Scheme (BTPS).

Members at BTFS have voted by nearly four to one to accept a CWU-negotiated pay deal that paves the way for further negotiations on a raft of issues the union has long been seeking to address.

BT has advised the CWU that it intends to review the current BT Pension Scheme (BTPS) arrangements. At the same time it has also given the CWU 12 months notice to terminate the 2008 Pension Agreement.

There was overwhelming support for a motion calling for a continuation of efforts to eradicate performance management (PM) in BT at day two of the telecoms conference. Conference praised the hard work of the national team in supporting the fight to abolish the ‘punitive’ and ‘counter-productive’ system that places unnecessary stress on members leading to a decline in their health and well-being.

BT and Ofcom have reached an agreement, on the future governance of Openreach, which will see Openreach, become a distinct, legally separate business within the BT Group. The settlement is based upon proposals issued by BT, which the regulator has said meets its competition concerns.
