Delivery Offices, including SPDOs, are represented by Bob Gibson, Assistant
Secretary, Outdoor Department
Officer Substitute - Noel McClean, PEC Member.
The Policy Advisor in the Department is Steve Fishwick - sfishwick@cwu.org.
With well over 100,000 members working in this part of the Royal mail business, it remains the single largest group of members within the CWU.
All issues affecting the daily working lives of our members working in deliveries are the responsibility of the Outdoor Department.
Formulated following an Annual Conference decision in 1999 - this working group was established and was made up of representatives from the field and was headed up at the time by none other than Billy Hayes, General Secretary in his then position as Outdoor Secretary.
The current national officer, Bob Gibson, was a founder member
of that group and is keen to ensure that the traditions of the
group including the invaluable role it plays in assisting the
department on rural issues continue. The group is currently
co-ordinated by Mike Newport, Area Delivery Representative and
is formed from representatives of large SPDO areas all over the
country. With over 1000 SPDOs in existence, the issues they deal
with and bring to the department are numerous!
As in all cases, your local CWU Branch or Workplace Representative should be your first port of call, as they are in a much better position to deal with local issues.
