Race
The Race Advisory Committee (RAC) (formerly the Ethnic Minorities Advisory Committee) to advise the CWU's National Executive Council (NEC) on issues relating to race in or out of the workplace.
The term of office for these positions is for a 2 year period commencing from 1st January 2012. The number of members to be elected is now 7 Postal constituency members and 6 TFS constituencfy members.
The Committee meets three times per year and discusses a wide
range of issues. It sets it's priorities for the year and then
splits into working parties in order to follow up these priorities.
Any relevant issues can be discussed and followed up by the Committee. The RAC have lobbied and campaigned to highlight other social issues as diverse as raising awareness on black health issues, fighting the far right and migrant workers & refugees.
The CWU also hold a yearly Black Worker's
Conference, which is a motion-based Conference. The main aims of
the event are to bring black workers together, helping them to
network and to also develop and agree Union policy that directly
affects black workers. Two motions from this Conference go forward
to CWU Annual Conference, so that it can be highlighted and picked
up on a national basis.
