Justice for Pensions

Millions of public sector workers went out on strike on November 30 in a dispute over pensions, from teachers and refuse collectors to civil servants, dinner ladies and lecturers.

The dispute, over a massive rise in contributions which could force tens of thousands of workers to pull out of pension schemes, will cause a huge problem for state benefits in years to come.

The average public sector pension is a modest £5,600 a year with more than half of all local authority workers receiving less than £3,000. Despite this they are branded as 'gold plated' by some of the country's more right-wing media and told they are selfish because things are worse in the private sector. The only way to improve pension provision for all is to fight for better pensions in all sectors, not be divided and all suffer cuts to working rights.

CWU members and activists across the country actively supported the mass walkout. Read CWU support for November 30 strikes and check out the event in pictures and video to find out where and how we were involved.
