Take the TUC ‘green’ challenge

10th January 2012

How "green" is your workplace? Are you and your colleagues meeting the climate change challenge? Do you recycle or throw away? Are you switching off electrical appliances at the end of each day?

0A new questionnaire - going out to workplaces across the country - is seeking answers to these and other questions, to try to paint a picture of the UK at work today and whether we, as a nation, are meeting the challenge to "go green to save the planet." Complete it here now: Unions, greening the workplace and climate change: A TUC survey

The TUC has asked the highly respected Labour Research Department (LRD) to survey workplaces in order to judge just how effective the various "green" initiatives have been, what's working and what's not and whether it's time for some new ideas.

0CWU senior deputy general secretary Tony Kearns and national health, safety and environment officer Dave Joyce are giving the study their full backing and are urging all workplace reps to circulate the questionnaire and take the issue up at their place of work.

"CWU takes environmental issues seriously and as well as being part of the TUC, our union is affiliated to the Campaign Against Climate Change and research such as this is essential if we're going to take this fight seriously," said Tony.

And Dave agreed, pointing out: "We're urging all of our regional and area 0 reps to email this to the workplaces in their various 'patches' and to get information from as many units as possible."

LRD secretary Lionel Fulton thanked the CWU for its support and explained: "We hope the survey will provide a useful picture of progress on trade union action on environment/climate change in the workplace and the role of the trade union movement in this vital area.

"We would be grateful if you could complete this questionnaire as soon as possible. It should take about 10 minutes. Just click on the link below."
