Royal Mail catering workers will start voting next week on a new pay deal that has been negotiated by CWU.

Around 500 staff employed by service provider Quadrant receive ballot papers next Monday (4 March) and the union is recommending a Yes vote for the agreement, which pays out a cash lump sum now and a consolidated increase from April.

Explaining the details, CWU national officer Terry Pullinger said: "The package provides for a cash lump sum to the equivalent of a 2 per cent increase on all elements of pay backdated to the 1 October 2012 and up to April 2013, and a 2 per cent increase on all elements of pay from the 1 April 2013."

Further provisions in the agreement commit the company to a further pay review commitment from 1October 2013 and further negotiations to develop a new productivity scheme.

Terry continued: "Against the background of the continuing pressure as a consequence of the general economic situation and the financial efficiencies within Royal Mail, we believe that this agreement is worthy of recommendation and the CWU has no hesitation in encouraging members to vote Yes."
