CWU welcomes new Yell strategy
14th July 2011
The Communication Workers Union
today (Thursday) welcomes Yell's announcement of a new strategy
to expand into online marketing and hopes this will bring good news
for job security at the company.
Yell - best known for its Yellow Pages directories and website Yell.com - has today revealed a four year programme which aims "to transform the Group from being a leading supplier of print and online advertising for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to being the leader in the emerging local eMarketplace for consumers and SMEs."
CWU national official Jim Gavine, said; "This is a good news story for everyone in Yell. The company and its staff have had a difficult few years so the prospect of new workstreams and a new outlook should bring a welcome breath of life to the company.
"Although there have been voluntary redundancies this year, we hope the new announced strategy is a sign that Yell has turned the corner and that this will enhance the job security of our members.
"CWU has been actively involved in negotiations over job security for our members in Yell and we warmly welcome today's announcement."
CWU has members across Yell and local reps have been involved in briefing staff at sites in Reading and Bristol today.
