CWU suspends TV Licensing strikes
19th December 2011
Strikes planned for this week by employees of TV Licensing
contractor Capita have been postponed by the CWU following
complications around pay deductions during the planned action.
Commenting on the issue, CWU assistant secretary Andy
Furey said: "The company's managing director
Terry Boynes told me that the company planned to deduct a whole
days pay from our members even if they just took half a day's
action.
"The CWU believes that this is extremely unreasonable, but,
with no time available to resolve this, we have decided - in the
interests of our members - to suspend the planned action," he
explained.
"Hopefully, this will give both sides an opportunity for some
calm reflection over the festive break. And we're hoping that,
in the New Year, wiser counsels will prevail and we can reach a
mutually satisfactory outcome to this dispute.
"A fair pay rise for our hard-working members and better
industrial relations going forward."
