CWU secures increased pay offer for O2 staff

After months of tough negotiations, CWU is today (Monday) recommending an improved pay offer to members in Telefonica O2 worth 2.87% in two instalments for 2012.
The pay offer is an improvement on the previous two-year offer of 2.75% for 2012 and 2.5% for 2013, not fully consolidated, which CWU members rejected by 90% in April. The new one-year offer is now being recommended to CWU members in an electronic ballot and if accepted staff will see their salaries rise by 2.75% in July - with fully consolidated back-pay to April - and a further 0.25% increase in October 2012.
SallyBridge, CWU assistant secretary, said: "It's been a tough six months of negotiations but I'm delighted that we're now in a position to recommend a fully consolidated pay offer to our members in O2.
"We've managed to move the company from a position of an unacceptably low pay offer spread over two years to a much better one-year deal, which is exactly our members have told us they wanted. Economic conditions are still very tough so we're especially pleased to have managed to work with O2 to reach an agreeable solution."
Pay deal summary:
From 1 April 2012 an increase of 2.75%
From 1 October 2012 a further increase of 0.25%
This is a fully consolidated one year deal and pay negotiations for 2013 for CWU grades will be discussed and agreed next year in the normal way.
Both parties recognise that the pay discussions this year have been difficult in part due to the backdrop of the business circumstances. Telefónica UK is currently facing major business challenges and it is acknowledged by CWU that significant change and business transformation will be required in order to successfully face and overcome these challenges. Both parties therefore commit to enter into discussions to agree a new approach to future change that will provide the basis for Telefónica UK to successfully achieve the changes required.
The electronic ballot will be run by Popularis with all CWU members in O2 receiving an e-mail to their work account to take part on the following timetable:
