CWU puts delivery office bullying on bosses’ agenda

21st December 2012

Major national talks will start in the New Year following a Summit Meeting held with Royal Mail on 17th December.

The meeting covered issues ranging from "cost-cutting managers placing unacceptable pressure on frontline delivery staff" to "outstanding issues with local revisions" and worries over the "impact of mail centre rationalisation".

Additionally, there will be urgent meetings between Royal Mail and CWU assistant secretary, Bob Gibson to discuss bullying and harassment in delivery offices.

The meeting lasted the whole day and there was a full, frank and challenging exchange of views on all the issues tabled by each party.

Deputy General Secretary Dave Ward led the CWU team. Royal Mail Chief Executive Moya Greene led the Royal Mail team.

Dave said: "We are determined to address our members' workplace issues and also pay for 2013. To do this successfully we must also tackle the impact of unfair competition and fight against the company preparing for privatisation.

"This is why we have launched our campaign to address these issues and, in the coming weeks and months, the union will undertake a range of campaign initiatives and events to put our case about jobs, working conditions, and defending a publicly-owned postal service."
