CWU lifts Computacenter pay above ‘going rate’
1st February 2012
CWU members working for Computacenter on the BT contract* have
voted by a two-to-one majority to accept a one-year pay deal
raising basic pay and allowances by 2 per cent.
The union's assistant secretary Colin
O'Callaghan said that the negotiations had been
"tough" but that he had been pleased to achieve a rise
higher than the "current going rate for the IT sector of
around 1 per cent.
"And when we bear in mind that around a third of UK workers
are presently under a full pay freeze, this rise is certainly
better than most," he added.
London Weighting Allowances also increase by 2 per cent under
the deal, which won the backing of just over two-thirds - 68 per
cent - of voters in the ballot, a poll that attracted an 83 per
cent turnout.
"We appreciate the support members expressed for the
union's efforts on their behalf and we're also glad to see
these high levels of participation," Colin commented.
*CWU members working on Computacenter's Santander account are unaffected by this agreement and their pay review is currently the subject of separate negotiations.
