Christmas cheer for Lithuanian children
20th November 2012
Volunteers from the CWU and Simpson Millar Solicitors are making
a Christmas trip to Lithuania to deliver "a few little gifts
and surprises" to the boys and girls either living in
children's homes or who attend the Save the Children Day Care
Centre in Vilnius.
Postal outdoor policy advisor Steve Fishwick
and Linda Stewart, head of the employment law
department at Simpson Millar, will spend their festive break
helping these deprived children.
Steve explained: "It all came about when a lovely lady from
Cheshunt phoned in to say that she had an amount of knitted goods
for children and was looking to donate them to a good cause,
provided that they could be delivered in time for this winter.
"A split-second decision was taken and the effort to
get the aid over to the kids was up and running. The request for
more knitted items is on Facebook, email and other outlets but more
is needed."
And his fellow traveller Linda added: "With clothes coming
in from as far afield as Bristol, York and Lancaster thus far, we
are slowly filling the van but every single item helps.
"We really do cherish every single donation - no matter how
small".
If you can help Steve and Linda, the items they particularly
need are children's knitted garments for all ages - gloves,
scarves, cardigans or jumpers - any school items, and of course any
fun Christmas present ideas toys, games etc. And, as always, basics
such as blankets and bedding are always in great demand.
"Help us to try to make it a happy Christmas for
these children," urged Steve, adding: "And don't
forget, you can always donate cash."
