Celebrating LGBT history month
29th January 2013
The CWU has long campaigned for the rights of the
Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community and is once
again proud to support LGBT History Month in the UK. Throughout the
month of February events will take place around the country to
commemorate and celebrate the lives of people who have played a
role in championing equality for LGBT people in society.
An exhibition focusing on LGBT heroes is available to loan from
the CWU, highlighting characters such as:
- Alan Turing
- Gareth Thomas
- Anna Grodzka
- Edward Carpenter
- Sue Perkins
- Sarah Waters
- Jane O'Neil Buchan
- Mandy McBain
- The union's own LGBT Advisory Committee
National equality officer Linda Roy
commented: "The CWU is proud to be at the forefront of
promoting LGBT rights and LGBT history. Our exhibition is an
excellent opportunity for people to read up and find out about the
excellent roles LGBT people have and continue to play in our
society. We are committed to growing this exhibition so that it
covers even more people and we would welcome sponsors who wish to
have any particular characters highlighted accordingly."
Although free to hire, the CWU does ask for a voluntary
donation. If any branches or institutions are interested in using
the pull-ups please contact the department for more details on 0208
971 7238.
