In reaction to Royal Mail’s announcement of major automated sorting centre closures affecting Liverpool, Oldham, Bolton, Stockport and Crewe, the CWU condemns the move as irresponsible.

CWU tells government: Post Office Card Account integral to future of Post Office
CWU has today (Thursday) written to James Purnell, Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, warning him that unless the Post Office Card Account (POCA) contract is awarded to the Post Office a further 3,000 post offices could face closure.

PAY DEALS ACCEPTED AT A&L
All three Bargaining Units in the Alliance & Leicester have voted overwhelmingly in favour of a two-stage pay increase for the July 2008 pay review. Members in all units voted by over 80 per cent in favour of the agreements.

Directors warned as corporate killing law implemented
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has issued a statement warning directors and senior managers that they will find themselves under “increasing scrutiny” if work-related deaths happen as a result of gross corporate failures, following the implementation of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007.
