John Baldwin - Head of International Affairs
John
joined the union in 1976 as a Postman in Maidenhead. He transferred
to Reading in 1978, and became the Branch Secretary of the Reading
Amalgamated Branch in 1980, a position he held until being
appointed as a Senior Clerk in the Organising Department of the UCW
at the Headquarters in Clapham in 1986.
He has worked at Union Headquarters for 22 years, and has experience of every department and process at union headquarters. John spent 4 years as Head of Policy in the General Secretary's Department, before becoming the first International Officer of the union in 2002.
John is a member of the Labour Party, a member of the Employment Tribunals panel, a Trustee of the UCW 2001 and CWU 2000 pension schemes, and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Communication Workers Friendly Society.
In Europe, John is a member of the UNI Europa Executive Committee and the Vice President of the Post Social Dialogue Committee, and internationally, he is a substitute member of the UNI World Executive.
Born in Somerset, John has lived for most of his life in the Thames Valley, predominately in Reading. He is married to Penny and has four surviving children, Tom, Evie, John and Jessica, and two grandchildren, Luke and Ophelia.
