Healthsome Work Environments
Maintaining a healthy work environment has benefits in terms of effectiveness and workforce satisfaction. Sadly, many employers are unaware of the ways in which a healthy workplace can be achieved.
There are several things to consider in order to improve workplace environments, and to achieve the best results for the staff it is important to look into as many of these areas as possible.A good way to reduce stress at work is to promote a more flexible environment. This can be achieved by giving employees more freedom on how they choose to complete their duties and how they schedule their individual tasks. Good communication is required in order to adopt a more flexible work style.

When an employee feels that something is wrong with the work environment or they are in difficulty they should be able to approach their supervisors about it. Hopefully, by working together they should be able to come up with the best solution.
Employees should be encouraged to develop good habits at work in order to stay healthy. This may include the addition of a fitness center, or negotiated/supplemented gym discounts so employees can escape for short workouts at lunchtime or straight after work.
Safety at the workplace is another key factor
in ensuring the working environment is a productive one. Providing
equipment and furnishings that are ergonomically friendly will go a
long way in preventing repetitive motion injuries and back pain.

By reducing the incidence of injuries and
medical conditions that cause staff to be absent, the workplace
will become more productive. By preventing problems before they
arise a more competent, healthier working environment can be
achieved. Issues CWU members may be faced with are dealt with by
the Health, Safety and Environment department, and include cycle
safety for Postal Delivery Workers, for example (www.cwu.org/50026/cycle-safety.html)
and Construction Site Safety (www.cwu.org/construction-site-safety.html)
for our Field Engineers, for example.
Finally, to ensure a healthy working environment and optimize productivity in the workplace the relationships between managers and each member of staff they control must be positive. When a supervisor witnesses an employee who is struggling with personal issues, he may feel hesitant to approach the person about problems that are outside the bounds of the office.
