CWU Welcomes EDM 2035

The Communication Workers Union today (Wednesday) welcomes Early Day Motion 2035 which calls on the Government to do all in its power to ensure that Royal Mail responds positively to the union's proposal of a peace offer in the current postal dispute.

The EDM tabled by Geraldine Smith, Michael Connarty, Jim Dobbin, David Crausby, John McDonnell and Colin Burgon has already attracted 64 signatures.

Billy Hayes, CWU general secretary, said: "EDM 2035 is a very welcome development in the search for an end to the current postal dispute. We're very pleased that MPs are urging Government and Royal Mail to engage positively with our offer of a deal to avert a national strike. The CWU is doing everything possible to reach an agreement.

"Our offer yesterday included a three-year proposal to secure stability for the Royal Mail. Royal Mail was too quick to reject our offer and this questions the company's intentions to resolve the dispute. The company needs to engage with these issues to reach a resolution."
