Alvescot
The CWU's flagship training
centre at Alvescot, Oxfordshire, is a beacon of environmental
building performance in the CWU estate.
Fully refurbished and reopened in July 2009 it boasts
sustainable energy features including solar panels, ground source
heat pumps, and top rate insulation.
There is a focus on sustainability throughout the centre with an
on-site allotment and chickens providing fresh produce for
students. Efforts have been made to source other consumables
locally, including beer from the local brewery for the bar, and
Fairtrade products are available in rooms and at the bar.
The wood-burning fire is stocked from coppicing on-site wood and bikes are available for students and visitors to use.
