Agency Delay a Real Blow says CWU

The Communication Workers Union today (Thursday) reacts with dismay at news that the government will delay the implementation of the Agency Workers Directive which is designed to strengthen the rights of agency and temporary workers.

Billy Hayes, CWU general secretary, said: "This is a real blow to agency workers. This regulation was meant to provide fairer treatment and greater security for some of the most vulnerable people in society.

"How the government believes by delaying the implementation of equal treatment for agency workers until October 2011 is in their interest beggars belief.

"This is more about the government dragging their feet and playing politics by appeasing business groups than protecting the welfare of agency workers."
